Machines are coin-operated and accept euro coins only. Washing tablets are available for purchase in the laundrette or shop. In winter especially the damp air can cause mould on walls and furniture in all houses. It is important therefore for students to take precautions to ensure that their accommodation is kept warm and well-aired as mould can cause respiratory problems. In Ireland a major cause of damp is caused by condensation. What is Condensation there is always some moisture in the air even if you cannot see it. If the air gets colder it cannot hold all of the moisture and tiny drops of water appear this is condensation. Condensation occurs mainly during cold weather whether it is raining or not. It appears in places where there is little movement of air. Look for it on walls in corners on or near windows and in or behind wardrobes and cupboards. How to avoid Condensation to reduce the amount of moisture when cooking cover saucepans and pots and do not leave kettles boiling. When washing clothes put wet clothes on a clothes airer in the bathroom ensure that the door is closed and also ensure that the window is open or the fan is on. How to Ventilate your apartment Ventilation is needed to get rid of moisture. You need much more ventilation in the kitchen or bathroom when cooking washing up bathing and drying clothes. this means opening the windows wider. always open windows when cooking and after showering. however remember to close the windows when leaving your apartment. Close the kitchen and bathroom doors when these rooms are in use even if your kitchen or bathroom has an extractor fan. this will help to stop the moisture reaching other rooms especially bedrooms which are often colder and more likely to get condensation. allow space for the air to circulate in and around your furniture. also open doors from time to time to ventilate cupboards and wardrobes. if you notice Mould If you notice mould you should deal with it immediately. Wipe down walls and window frames with a fungicidal wash e.g. Dettol mould and mildew remover spray or Dettox mould and mildew remover. Clothes with mildew should be dry-cleaned. In addition please log the issue via the student portal so that we can if required assist you in dealing with it. The licensee must pay the deposit licence fees and light and heat charges without deduction in the manner set out in this Licence Agreement. In accordance with the details outlined in paragraph 9 of the First schedule of the licence agreement no refund of any prepayment shall be made in the event of the Premises being vacated early for whatever reason until such time as a new licensee is secured and monies received by ATALIA. The onus to find a new resident is with the licensee. An administration fee of 100 will be retained by ATALIA in all cases in addition to any amounts referred to within Paragraph 9 of the first schedule of the licence agreement. General It is intended to develop a vibrant community spirit which supports both the social and academic life of all our residents at Corrib Village. To achieve this objective all who reside in ( the Resident(s) ) or visit Corrib Village should respect the facilities the rights of Corrib Village community and the rights of those living adjacent to Corrib Village. It is intended that each apartment and block will be self-regulating and will promote a positive community spirit. Please read your Licence Agreement and be clear on all points to avoid any misunderstanding going forward. Any queries relating to the licence agreement should be discussed with management at the earliest opportunity. 3. We ask all students in residence to read this carefully as she he is bound by the terms hereof Discipline Corrib Village management with the support of Residential Assistants and Corrib Village Security have full responsibility for discipline in Corrib Village. Any breach of conduct in Corrib Village or precincts whether by a resident or non-resident student will be dealt with by Corrib Village management. Depending on the gravity of the offence Corrib Village management may at their discretion give a warning community service of varying duration impose a fine or a combination of these measures. Failure to respond will result in the matter being referred to NUI Galway s Disciplinary Officer for further action. This referral could result in either suspension or eviction from Corrib Village. Fire All residents are bound by all fire safety and other regulations for the safe and orderly management of the Premises the Apartment and the Complex as may from time to time be imposed and to acquaint himself herself with these regulations and with the emergency escape routes and not to interfere in any manner with the Fire and Safety equipment. The unnecessary interference with fire safety equipment or the discharge of fire extinguishers is considered a serious act of vandalism and is liable for criminal prosecution. There will be a charge of 125 for any breach of the terms herein levied against the individual responsible or equally 17 2. 4. Corrib Village Student handbook 2016 against all occupants of the Apartment if the individual cannot be identified in addition to the following replacement charges Fire Panel 400 Smoke Head 100 Fire Blanket 30 Fire Extinguisher replacement 60 and Fire Extinguisher refill 35 for each and every instance. 5. Smoking All apartments are non-smoking apartments. ATALIA requests that you are respectful of non-smokers policy and that you do not allow smoking in your apartment or other communal areas including block hallways. If a resident(s) is found not to be adhering to this house rule it will result in a mandatory charge of 2 hours community service and or further disciplinary action for each and every instance. Residents should not undertake any cooking or otherwise prepare any food except in the kitchen of their Apartment and should not dispose of any materials in any sink or lavatory or otherwise so as to block any drains pipes or sewers serving the Complex. Care must be taken when using the equipment in the kitchen. Do not leave cooking unattended ensure all equipment is turned off when finished. 7. Consumption of alcoholic beverages in public areas is strictly forbidden and in breach of house rules. Apartment planned events To ensure that events held in Corrib Village are safe responsible and enjoyable an Event Request Form must be completed by residents at least 2 days in advance of the planned event and must be approved by management. In doing so both Corrib Village management and Security are aware that an event is taking place and can assist so that the event is held in a safe and responsible manner. Event request forms will be available from Reception. Unauthorised events held without permission are a breach of 8. 6. 18 House Rules and a charge of 25 for each and every instance shall apply 9. Noise To maintain an atmosphere conducive to study residents are requested not to play musical instruments or radios televisions or other sound producing apparatus in such a manner as to cause disturbance annoyance or nuisance to the other residents of the complex and in particular not between the hours of 11pm and 8am. Abuse of this clause may at the discretion of the Licensor and based on complaints from other residents be grounds for termination of the Licence Agreement heaters in their apartment or any other part of the complex. 12. Transfer of rooms Residents are expected to occupy the room assigned to them at check in. Transfer may only be arranged at the discretion of Corrib Village management. 13. Visitors are not permitted to stay overnight unless authorised in writing by Atalia management in advance. The Licensee shall not permit visitors to remain overnight in or on any part of the premises the Apartment or the Village and shall require all visitors to leave the village by 23 00hrs. The licensee is responsible for all visitors to his her apartment whether authorized or not. Any damage or disturbance caused will be the responsibility of the Licensee. At the manager s sole discretion there may be certain days that residents only are permitted in Corrib Village and the times visitors must leave the village amended. Security are authorized to cap the number of visitors being signed in at any time at their discretion and without prior notice. 14. Fixtures and fittings Residents are requested to keep all furniture fixtures fittings appliances and articles in their Apartment in good and proper repair and to pay to Corrib Village an amount equivalent to the replacement cost of such items as may be lost broken or destroyed. 19 10. Vandalism The cost of any damage caused in an apartment will be charged to the person persons responsible. Residents are expected not to damage windows or doors or any Corrib Village property. Candles Fairy lights Beer Kegs etc. are not allowed. A charge of 50 will apply to each and every instance of block doors being forcefully opened. In the event where there is damage caused to Apartments and or public areas including the exterior of the village where those responsible cannot be identified the village Management reserves the right to impose a community levy at the end of the term to all residents in the Village. If applied the levy will be deducted from deposits on termination of the license agreement. 11. Electrical Residents shall not interfere with or overload any electrical apparatus installed in or on the Premises and shall not install any additional electrical wiring gas piping or portable gas or paraffin Corrib Village Student handbook 2016 15. Residents are requested not to deface the Premises the Apartment or the Complex or to drive nails or drawing pins into the walls or woodwork nor to affix any form of sticky tape to plaster or woodwork and to remove any of same within 24 hours of notification by Corrib Village. Posters may be hung using Blu-tac ONLY. Posters are permitted in bedrooms only NOT in communal living areas. 16. Furniture Residents are not permitted to remove or permit the furniture fixtures and fittings appliance or articles to be removed from the Premises or from the Apartment or the Complex. 17. Key cards ID security Residents should not under any circumstances part with possession of any keys to the premises or any security ID card for the purpose of gaining access to the Premises or the Apartment and to report any loss thereof immediately to Corrib Village. The cost of the replacement of keys is 5 for each and every instance for swipe card or security ID card if lost or destroyed. Any time you lock your key in the apartment and Security have to open the door there will be a charge 5 for each and every instance - there will be no charge if the licensee has a non-functional key. ID cards MUST be carried at all times and may be confiscated by Security personnel as required confiscated ID cards may be collected at reception. 18. Ventilation Residents should not cover wall vents fans in toilets and kitchens as these are required for ventilation. Ventilation is also very important to avoid build-up of moisture and mould growth particularly in kitchen and bathroom areas. All windows should be opened each day for a short period to allow proper ventilation of the apartment whilst the apartment is occupied. See page 14 in Student Handbook in relation to this. 19. Removal of refuse Residents should not throw or deposit or permit to be thrown or deposited dirt rubbish rags or other refuse in or around Corrib Village or in or around their apartment. Residents are expected to remove all waste from their apartments on a regular basis and to at all times make use of a common rubbish bin in respect of such items and not to allow any internal rubbish bins to overfill or spill on walls or floors of the apartment. We operate a policy of recycling in Corrib Village and residents are required to comply with this. 20. Pets Residents shall not keep a dog or any other animal (with the exception of approved Guide Dogs) reptile insect or pet in or on the Premises the Apartment or in or on the Complex. 21. Cleaning The apartments are selfcatering. There is no cleaning service provided. Residents are required to maintain and clean their own apartment. There will be weekly housekeeping checks. If your apartment is not found to be at an acceptable standard you will be required to bring it to this standard. If there is still no improvement contract cleaners will be brought in and you will be charged equally for this service. 22. Bicycles cannot be brought into buildings. Any bicycles found in the 20 building will be removed. Bicycle racks are provided in each courtyard and bicycles should be chained and locked. Bicycles are left at owner s risk. 23. Displays of bottles containers or other articles in the area of the windows of the Apartments are not permitted. 24. Residents are not permitted to hang or expose any clothes poster or advertisement matter or placard flag banner decorative lighting or any other items from the windows. 25. Residents should not store or keep in their Apartment or in or on any part of the Complex any dangerous combustible or unlawful substances or materials whatsoever and to report immediately the presence of such substances or materials to Corrib Village. 26. The security of each apartment is the responsibility of the residents. Apartment and bedroom doors MUST be closed at all times. Windows MUST be locked when leaving a room or apartment. Doors can t be left on the latch. Please contact Corrib Village reception immediately if you have concerns over your apartment s security. 27. Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. Residents should not participate in any incident which may be deemed by Corrib Village as a breach of the licence agreement. 28. Residents should drive with due care and obey the rules of the road within Corrib Village and should park at locations as directed by a member of staff security personnel when requested to do so. 21 Corrib Village Student handbook 2016 29. Residents should respect all Corrib Village staff Security personnel and Residential Assistants at all times and comply with any request or instruction issued by Corrib Village Staff Security Personnel and RAs as they see fit to maintain the safety and security of all residents. 30. Residents must inform Corrib Village staff and Security immediately of any emergency or situation requiring urgent attention. Outside of office hours assistance in any emergency should be sought at the Security hut. Subject to the foregoing residents should not disturb the Security officer with routine inquiries that can be attended to during office hours at the Complex Administration Office. 31. Residents must leave the Premises in a clean and orderly condition and remove all personal effects and belongings there from and not later than the agreed time on the day of departure. Any such personal effects or belongings so left in or on the Premises or the Apartment or in or on the Complex after that time shall be disposed of by ATALIA at its discretion without incurring any liability to the Licensee. 32.
